A 40-year-old woman from Florida, USA, went missing in Spain amid a bitter divorce. Ana Knezevic, a U.S. citizen from Colombia, disappeared about two weeks ago, but her loved ones claim they received “strange messages” from her cell phone before she disappeared, New York reported. The Post reported.
Family and friends said Knezevic was going through a bitter breakup with her Serbian husband.
Knezevic went missing in Madrid on February 5 while traveling in Europe, according to his brother Felipe Henao.
Henao told the press that she had planned to meet a friend in Barcelona but never arrived.
Knezevic, a Fort Lauderdale resident, rented an apartment in Madrid in December 2023. Since then, she has been in regular contact with her family and friends.
Her brother claimed that a man wearing a helmet was spotted obliterating the apartment’s security camera with spray paint and then went missing.
Knezevic’s family and friends became worried when they started receiving text messages in Spanish on her cell phone.
“That Spanish message looks like it was translated from Google. That’s not her. She wouldn’t say that. No one would say that in Spanish,” Henao told the Daily Mail. It is said that
The message said Knezevic had met someone who lived two hours from Madrid and was visiting him for several days.
He added that he would contact his family when he returned, as phone service was not available while he was away.
Knezevic’s friend Sanna Rameau claimed the American was last seen by neighbors on February 2.
The day Knezevic went missing, Sanna Rameau sent her a text message, but she did not respond.
The next day, she received a text message from the missing woman’s cell phone saying she had met someone and they had an instant “connection.”
Sanna Rameau received an email saying, “I’ll call you when I get back.”
However, Sanna Rameau asked the person to send her his home address and asked if it would be a good idea to go with a stranger.
“On the Saturday afternoon after she disappeared, we received a very strange message from her mobile phone. I have to say from her mobile phone because I can’t believe it was her that sent it. I met a man on the street,” Sanna Rameau told WSVN.
Sanna Rameau insisted that her friend did not leave of her own accord and that she “doesn’t know who took her away against her will.”
Spanish authorities are currently investigating the matter further.
