Spain is a very popular holiday destination among Brits. It is also popular among people who want to move to a warmer place.
Europe’s sunny haven offers something for everyone, whether it’s bustling cities, vibrant nightlife, delicious cuisine or a lazy day at the beach, beautiful walks and great shopping.
But nowhere is perfect. A foreigner has opened up about an aspect of life in Spain that may not be very fun for everyone: canned white asparagus.
James, who has lived in Spain for 12 years, said that while he “absolutely loves living in Spain,” there are some things about it that really bother him.
This expatriate revealed that he “hates canned white asparagus,” which is often served at Christmas.

James revealed that while he loves that Christmas in Spain is full of festive traditions and delicious food, “it always takes a turn for the worst when these people show up.”
He said, “If I had a nemesis, it would be canned white asparagus.”
The expat said the dish is served on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, or both.
If canned white asparagus isn’t bad enough for James, it’s served with “a lot of gooey mayonnaise.”
The Spanish resident added that he tends to be in the minority because other people at the dinner table are “groaning at how good it tastes.”
When you move to another country, you may end up eating a lot of different foods that you’re not used to.
This is definitely something to be aware of if you are a British citizen moving to Spain or any other country.
Expat James revealed another aspect of life in Spain that he “hated”: “I think it drives you crazy, too.”
A foreigner said that things “go bad” when this dish is served.

he said: “I love the sociability of Spanish culture. In this country, people stop and chat, spend time without looking at the clock, and are really, really happy together.”
“But there is an aspect of this sociability that I cannot bear, and it is called ‘the long Spanish farewell.'”
The expatriate claimed that Spaniards cannot say goodbye quickly during social events. Rather, it takes a long time to say goodbye to others and leave the position.
But despite a long farewell to canned white asparagus and the Spanish language, Spain remains an attractive option for Britons looking to move abroad.
Expats can live in a “bustling but affordable” area of Spain for just £550 a month. It has “lots of great bars, restaurants and beaches.”
