Former Rangers star Dapo Mebde has been rushed to hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a car crash.

Belgian publication GVA reports that the incident occurred on Sunday morning as the striker was on his way to a practice match against Belgian second-division club KV Ostend.

Mebde was said to have been driving towards Brussels near Zedelgem at around 9am when his car veered off the road and hit a tree.

Firefighters extricated the 22-year-old man from the car and he was later rushed to a hospital in Bruges, where he remains in a critical condition, Belgian police said.

According to GVA, the Federal Highway Police said: “It is unclear how the accident occurred.”

Former Rangers star Dapo Medube has suffered life-threatening injuries in a car crash, according to reports from Belgium.
Medu first joined the club aged 10 in 2011 and has spent 10 years at Ibrox.
The striker has also represented Scotland as a youth international, making three appearances for the country’s Under-21s.

“The public prosecutor’s office has appointed a traffic expert to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.”

Mbude spent 10 years at Ibrox after first joining the club’s youth system aged just 10 years old.

The Scotland youth international was handed his senior debut for the club by manager Steven Gerrard after coming on as a substitute against Kilmarnock on the final day of the 2019 season.

After leaving Ibrox when his contract expired in 2021, Medube joined Watford before being loaned to AFC Wimbledon, where he made 32 appearances in all competitions.

Dapo’s younger brother, Dire Medube, is also a professional footballer, previously playing in Manchester City’s academy before joining KVC Westerlo in July.
