GE Vernova has signed a framework agreement with Forestalia to install up to 693MW of onshore wind turbines at 16 future project sites across Spain’s Aragon region. Through this exclusive framework agreement, 110 of GE’s 6.1-158 wind turbines will be installed near Zaragoza in six phases. The first phase has already begun and will see the installation of 33 wind turbines across five wind farms. This agreement builds on the success of the previous agreement signed in 2016 and expands GE’s largest wind cooperation in Spain.
Vic Abbate, GE’s Chief Technology Officer and CEO of GE Vernova’s Wind Division, said: The agreement provides a significant pipeline of new projects until 2024 in Aragon, a region where the company has previously commissioned over 1.5 GW of wind energy. We are proud to play a key role in driving Spain’s energy transition efforts and look forward to bringing more renewable, sustainable and affordable energy to the country. I am. ”
Fernando Sampere, President of Forestaria, said: “This agreement is a further step towards the goal of achieving 1.2 GW of operation under direct management in Forestaria’s own portfolio and contributes to the socio-economic development of the hosting region. It will be beneficial,” he added. It will not only contribute to the project but also to further decarbonize the economy. ”
The total facility covered by this framework agreement consists of 110 GE 6.1-158 main power turbines. This includes 33 turbines with a hub height of 101 m and 77 turbines with a hub height of 120.9 m. All deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The GE and Forestaria partnership reached a key milestone in 2022 with the signing of GE’s first European power purchase agreement (PPA) from the Forestaria-owned Coto wind farm in Spain. The PPA is a key element of GE’s plan to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2030, while bringing new renewable energy generation online to help decarbonize the economy.
