SINGAPORE – Sustainability and Environment Minister Grace Fu has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), to serve until 2026, the organization announced on January 5.
She joined SNOC last October when she was hired as a member of SNOC’s Executive Committee.
Former chairman Tan Chuan-jin, who had been at the helm of the organization since 2014, resigned in July. He took such action a day after he resigned from the People’s Action Party as Marine Parade GRC chairman and MP over an affair with Tampines GRC MP Cheng Li Hui, who also resigned.
Former Singapore Bowling Director Jesse Poore was subsequently appointed acting chairman of SNOC. She will now resume her duties as vice president.
The Extraordinary General Meeting was held at the Singapore Sports Hub and was attended by 141 delegates representing 42 Full Members, 2 Associate Members and 5 Provisional Members.
Mr Foo, who went on to serve as Minister of Culture, Community and Youth from 2015 to 2020, said: “I am grateful for the privilege of contributing to SNOC and the Olympic Movement.”
He added: “We look forward to continuing to work with the NSA and stakeholders to realize the potential of our athletes to take Singapore’s sport to greater heights, and continue to create opportunities for our athletes to represent Singapore in major competitions.” ” he added.

Other than Ms. Pua, Ms. Hu is the first female leader of SNOC. Past Presidents include Minister EW Barker, Dr Yeo Ninh Hong and Mr Teo Chee Hian.
SNOC is a non-profit organization that coordinates the selection of Singapore athletes for major competitions such as the Olympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and SEA Games. We also maintain discipline among Singapore athletes through our Code of Conduct.
In 2020, nine U-23 national soccer players who broke the curfew at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines were fined between $1,000 and $2,000.
In October 2022, national swimmers Joseph Schooling, Amanda Lim and Teong Tseng Wei were fined $10,000, $2,800 and $3,200 respectively by SNOC for violating the code of conduct. .
