Jonathan Afolabi has been traded to West Flanders side Kortrijk in a trade with Phibsboro after Belgian club KV Kortrijk won the race for his signature.
Afolabi enjoyed a sensational run to the top of the Irish League in Bohemians colors, becoming joint top scorer in the Irish League Premier Division with 15 goals.
Such a 23-year-old player was called up to the senior national team and attracted the attention of many clubs across Europe.
A number of English clubs have been linked with the PFA Ireland Player of the Year nominations, with a number of Belgian clubs also rumored to be interested.
However, he is tied to KV Kortrijk, with the club agreeing an undisclosed fee and personal terms with the striker with Bohemians last month, earning him €200,000 off.
Afolabi said in a statement: “It has been a pleasure and an honor to play for Bose for the past year and a half.”
“I would like to thank the coaching staff, teammates and fans for making it such a fun time here.
“I will continue to move forward in my career with many good memories and moments that have helped me grow.”
The former Celtic and Southampton frontman is heading straight into a relegation battle with his new club at the bottom of the Belgian Professional League, 11 points and three places out of safety.
The Belgian first team are on winter break until January 20, giving Afolabi time to settle in to his new club and impress his way onto the team sheet.
