SINGAPORE — Heavy traffic jams and immigration delays are expected again at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints ahead of the Chinese New Year weekend.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Agency (ICA) advised on Friday, February 2 that drivers will have to wait up to three hours at immigration from next Thursday (February 8) to next Tuesday (February 13). announced that it is possible. This comes as more travelers head north into Malaysia for the long weekend, with authorities advising motorists to factor in additional waiting times.

More travelers use checkpoints over long weekends

ICA has observed an increase in traffic over the January long weekend as more travelers use land checkpoints. “From January 26th to 28th, heavy traffic jams continued to occur at land checkpoints, resulting in more than 1.37 million crossings (nearly 458,000 crossings per day),” the report said. ICA recommends that drivers:

  1. Singapore permanent residents who have renewed their passports will need to transfer their re-entry permit to their new passport. Long-term pass holders must notify the ICA or the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of any changes to their passport details before entering Singapore.

  5. Travelers departing in Singapore-registered vehicles should adhere to the “three-quarters of a tank” rule. Violators can be fined up to $500 or prosecuted in court. They will be turned back at the checkpoint and will not be allowed to enter Malaysia.

Prohibited matter

Travelers are also cautioned not to bring prohibited items such as firecrackers, “Pop Pop” mini firecrackers, weapons, counterfeit tobacco products (e-cigarettes, vaporizers), or regulated items such as “bakwa” and potted plants.
