Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 sweeps the Car of the Year award in Singapore

Seoul, South Korea and Singapore, January 1, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Hyundai Motors today announced that the IONIQ 5 has won the 2023 Straits Times Car of the Year, Sgcarmart Car of the Year and Electric SUV of the Year .

The Straits Times Car of the Year award is highly regarded for its objectivity and reliability, as it only recognizes first-generation vehicles in all categories. Of the 40 new cars released this year, Singapore while Mid-November 2022 and Mid-November 2023IONIQ 5 was one of The Straits Times’ nine finalists.

IONIQ 5 performed well in most categories, especially practicality, affordability, and design, earning a total score of 399 points. This gave them a 40.5 point difference over second place.[1]. The IONIQ 5 is the first Hyundai model to win the Straits Times Car of the Year title.

Lin TanThe Straits Times Car of the Year judge praised the IONIQ 5 as an “all-rounder”, adding that it has “a retro feel, yet futuristic design and amazing practicality”. Emphasis was placed on the concept of “space”. Dr. Kong Yongyao, another judge for the award, called Hyundai “a stunning triumph of imagination, ambition and execution.”

An additional award for Car of the Year came from Sgcarmart. singapore’s The largest car sales platform. Out of a total of 76 cars in 26 categories, IONIQ 5 was the winner in the electric SUV category, earning Sgcarmart his only 2023 Car of the Year title. Sgcarmart explains on its website that it recognizes each automaker’s efforts and creativity. Their cars have been taken to a higher level in terms of design, efficiency, versatility and value for money.

What’s even more important about Sgcarmart 2023 Car of the Year is that out of eight evaluation criteria, consumer voting accounts for approximately 65 percent of the total score.

Hyundai considers the IONIQ 5’s dual honors as a testament to its commitment to future mobility production and technological innovation. The company hopes to leverage this track record to solidify its position as a leading EV brand.
