name: Erin Ong (@erinongwc)
Year:34
height: 1.53 meters
weight: 46kg
Profession: Co-owner of Push Pull Give.Fitness, yoga and gymnastics coach
situation: married
food: I don’t follow a specific diet, but I make it a priority to maintain a balanced diet that fuels both my coaching sessions and my own strength training. I focus on getting enough protein to meet my daily macronutrient requirements. I avoid fried and processed foods and choose whole grain alternatives whenever possible.
My daily lunch is mostly “Saifan”. As for dinner, he prepares meals three times a week to maintain nutritional control. On days when you eat out, choose carefully to align with your nutritional goals. I have a sweet tooth and love bread, so I allow myself the occasional bread or sweet treat every other day.
exercise: I aim to log 4 strength and mobility training sessions and 2 runs per week. However, due to the nature of the work, there may be times when this system cannot be followed. In such cases, I try to work out whenever I have a break between sessions, even if it’s just 30 minutes.
Q: Were you active in sports when you were younger?
A: I was never a sports person or an active person. I joined the choir in high school and junior college. I was also able to participate in an international choral competition in Italy with the JC Choir. I started dancing when I was staying on campus and also performed in hall performances.
What have you become more passionate about as you get older?
To stay healthy, I signed up for a gym membership and started going to fitness and yoga classes. I have very low flexibility (I can’t touch my toes) so I was taking yoga classes to improve my flexibility.
After taking a few yoga classes, I started enjoying it and started practicing yoga every day. I discovered calisthenics in 2019, and he didn’t start training until 2021.
What made you want to start teaching yoga?
After 5 years of practice, I started to see some progress in my practice, so I wanted to share my knowledge about yoga and its benefits. I’ve also always loved teaching, so I wanted to combine two things I’m passionate about: yoga and teaching.
Why did you decide to quit your job and start teaching yoga?
I worked at a recruitment agency for three years. Although I was financially well off, I was in a very stressful environment. So, once I completed my yoga teacher training, I decided to take the plunge and quit my job to become a full-time yoga instructor.
When did you decide to invest in Push Pull Give?
While teaching yoga in 2019, I met the co-founder of Push Pull Give, a strength and movement social enterprise gym, where I had the opportunity to start teaching yoga part-time.
A few years later, an opportunity arose to expand the business. One of my goals in life was to become an entrepreneur, so when this opportunity came up, I decided to give this journey a try.
Did you experience anything that made you feel insecure about yourself when you were younger?
When I was younger, I had misaligned teeth and was very insecure and couldn’t smile confidently. When I was 13 years old, I got braces to straighten my teeth. Since then, I have become more confident when meeting and talking to people.
When was the last time you felt least confident?
During my first few months at the company, I was the least confident because the job was completely new to me and I had no experience recruiting. It was a very stressful environment, but thankfully I had good mentors. The tough environment has made me a stronger person and more confident from within.
Do you have any comments about your body?
When I was in high school, I was often told that my thighs and butt were big. Now people start commenting on how big my arms are (lol). But I am not affected by them at all because the most important thing is that I am happy with the way I look.
If you could change anything about yourself, would you?
no. Nothing about myself changes. I’m proud of my body and I think everyone should be proud of their body.
