SINGAPORE – Students who took the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma exam in Singapore in November 2023 once again outperformed students from around the world. Their average score was 37.76 out of 45, higher than the world average of 29.06.
25 schools in Singapore conducted IB exams in November 2023.
These included the Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) (independent), St. Joseph’s Institute (SJI), Aljunied Al-Islam Seminary, Singapore Sports School and Singapore School of the Arts (Sota). Students from the international school division of ACS, SJI and Hwa Chong also collected their results.
The Switzerland-based IB organization, which conducts the exam, announced that students in Singapore’s Diploma Program (DP) and Career-related programs received their results on January 3. There were 20,385 examinees worldwide.
From May 2023, the IB will no longer publish data on the number of IB students scoring 45 points. This is to prevent assessment results from being used to make comparisons between students, schools and communities.
Since joining the IB program in 2005, Singapore has consistently produced at least half of the world’s perfect scorers.
All 441 students at ACS(I), Singapore’s first school to offer the IB Diploma Program after being accredited in 2005, passed the exam. The average score was 40.8 points, of which 324 students scored 40 points or more.
All 270 SJI IB students who took the DP exam passed, with an average score of 40.1 points. More than 6 out of 10 students scored him 40 points or higher.
All 209 SJI International students passed with an average score of 36.7, with 33% of them scoring 40 or above.
23 students from Aljunied Al-Islam Madrasa took the DP and passed the IB exam with an average score of 33.7 points.
Of the 29 student-athletes who took the IB Diploma exam at Singapore Sports School, 60% scored 40 points or above. The school declined to provide student average scores.
Principal Ong Kim Soon said: “Rather than focusing on the school’s average or perfect scorers, the school wants to celebrate the outstanding passion, drive and resilience of our student-athletes.” .
A total of 160 Sota students took the IB exam, and more than half scored 38 points or higher. Sota also did not reveal the average scores of the students.
