Iberdrola to install six new storage batteries in Spain

Must read

Iberdrola España will install six battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 150 MW. This is an innovative solution for storing and integrating renewable energy into your system. Each project will create more than 100 green jobs, including the construction and operational phases.

Battery storage technology is becoming increasingly important to maximize the use of clean energy, adjust grid frequency within milliseconds, and provide backup capacity during energy peaks.

The six new batteries produced by the company have been recognized as Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) in the Renewable Energy, Green Hydrogen and Storage (ERHA) sector and will receive funding of €37.5 million. be.

The battery will be powered by lithium-ion technology, which is currently the most popular technology based on performance, technology maturity, and cost. These systems are installed as a hybrid technology in combination with a renewable energy source, in this case solar power. Therefore, the solar power plant and the battery share the same connection point. The project will be built in Castilla y León, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia, and each battery will have a power output of 25MW and a capacity of 50MWh.

In Castilla y León, the batteries will be installed in Revira Vallejera (Burgos), where Iberdrola Espana completed Spain’s first hybrid wind-solar farm in 2023.

Extremadura will be equipped with two new batteries. The company plans to install two batteries in the state of Cáceres, where the C. Arañuelo I and II solar power plants are located.

In Castilla-La Mancha, two batteries will be installed in the municipalities of Valverdejo, Alarcon and Olmedilla de Alarcon (Cuenca), where there is a solar power plant in Iberdrola España.

The sixth battery will be built in Huelva, Puebla de Guzmán, where Iberdrola España is hosting the Andévallo solar power plant, the first of its kind to be built with the UNEF Certificate of Excellence. Become.
