Undefeated UFC featherweight contender Ilia Topuria has joined the Conor McGregor sweepstakes, offering to fight ‘The Notorious’ in Spain next year.
McGregor, who has been out of action since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021, is finally ready to return to the Octagon in 2024. In fact, the former two-time UFC champion teased a special announcement on New Year’s Day to confirm his next opponent. Official return date.
Although McGregor is still expected to fight his pal, ultimate fighter With coach Michael Chandler back, it’s possible the promotion could pivot at the last moment and put “The Notorious” back against someone else. Topria probably isn’t on McGregor’s short list of fighters he wants to face early next year, but “El Matador” had to take a shot.
On Friday, Topria called on McGregor to face off in Spain sometime in 2024. Although the Spanish fighter didn’t use the term “infamous” as a bad word, he was pretty clear about what he wanted next.

Of course, Topria is expected to fight Alexander Volkanovski for the undisputed UFC featherweight title at UFC 298 next February. Topuria has a 6-0 record since joining the UFC in 2020, and will have a chance to defeat the featherweight champion and solidify his status as the next big star heading into the promotion.
If Topuria can defeat Volkanovski next year, he could potentially face McGregor at some point in the future.
