Around 60,000 liters of premium red wine worth around 2.5 million euros (about 270 million yen) went missing at a Spanish winery this weekend after someone broke open the tanks, the winery said on Tuesday.

Security camera footage released by Sepa 21, a famous winery in central Spain’s Ribera del Duero region, shows a person wearing a hoodie running from one large tank to another, turning on the tap and pouring out the wine. The footage showed it spilling out onto the floor.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the winery said, adding that the amount of fine wine lost could have filled 80,000 bottles.

Jose Moro, the establishment’s director, told Spanish public television TVE that no items were stolen during the break-in, so it was clear that the intruders’ only goal was to damage the store. .

“This is a case of someone who doesn’t have a lot of sense of balance, who doesn’t have a lot of common sense, who is acting out of hatred, doing harm for the sake of doing harm,” he told the station.

Moro said the intruder would have needed to know how to operate the system that opens the tank.

“Everything shows that the person knew where he was,” he added.
