Italy’s Ministry of Environment and Energy Security has approved the Adriatic Link submarine power line, which aims to accelerate the integration of renewable resources in Italy and support energy transition goals.

The Adriatic Link will consist of two submarine cables approximately 210 kilometers long, laid at a maximum depth of 100 meters, and two underground cables 40 kilometers long. The conversion stations will be built near existing substations in Cepagatti (Pescara), Abruzzo and Fano (Pesaro Urbino), Marche.
Italian cable giant Prysmian will supply the cables for the project.
This infrastructure will increase the exchange capacity between Italy’s south-central and north-central zones by approximately 1 GW, integrating and transporting energy generated by wind and solar farms in the south to consumption areas in the north. It becomes possible.
Terna said the approval was the result of ongoing dialogue between the ministry and Terna and an extensive consultation process the company initiated with local communities.
