Kapsch TrafficCom has successfully installed a traffic light priority system for public transport in the Spanish Basque city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, reducing bus journey times by up to 25% and reaffirming its commitment to sustainable and healthy mobility. did.

Kapsch TrafficCom’s technology is being used in two important projects. One is the Intelligent Electric Bus (Bus Eléctrico Inteligente (BEI)), which will run on one of Vitoria’s main transport axes, and the other is a tram extension that will improve access to the eastern part of the city.

Kapsch TrafficCom provides all the necessary traffic light systems for the 61 intersections that BEI passes through. This includes upgrading the existing traffic light system, installing new systems, and establishing a dedicated optical signaling system for fully electric intelligent buses.

Thanks to the traffic signal priority system, bus frequency has been improved from 10 minutes to 7 minutes, reducing travel times by 25% for a potential group of 120,000 users.

In addition to this project, the extension of the Vitoria-Gasteiz tramway to Salbrua has also been completed. For this reason, Kapsch TrafficCom has installed a signal priority system at his 15 intersections of trams.
