SINGAPORE – Food and beverage catering company KG Catering has been hit with a penalty for the second time in less than three months, and will be suspended for two weeks from Tuesday 23 January to 5 February.
A press release from the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) said the caterer failed to protect its premises from infection and sold and prepared potentially contaminated food. Each violation cost him six demerit points.
“License holders who accumulate 12 or more demerit points within a 12-month period may have their license suspended for two to four weeks or may have it revoked,” the SFA said.
The two violations also resulted in KG Catering being fined $3,000, which was part of a $6,000 fine last November for sanitary violations that led to 92 food poisoning incidents.
Food handler refresher course
According to its website, the caterer offers both local and international cuisine with Halal certification for corporate events and home functions. It is located at 171 Kampung Ampat.
The SFA added that all food handlers working in suspended facilities must retake and pass Level 1 of the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) food safety course before they can resume operations. . All food hygiene personnel working within a suspended facility will also be required to retake and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.
Food businesses are reminded by the SFA to always adhere to good food and personal hygiene practices and only employ registered food handlers. If we find that there is a violation of the Environmental Public Health Act, we will take decisive action without hesitation.
The public can report violations of the law through SFA’s online feedback form or by calling the hotline at 6805-2871.
