To Kingdom Come: The King and Queen of Spain presided over the inauguration of the second Puig Tower in Barcelona on Wednesday.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia toured the building known as Puig Tower-T2, which is home to approximately 500 employees of the Spanish beauty and fashion company’s operational base. It also houses an innovation center with fragrance, skin care and makeup labs, as well as consumer and product testing areas. The Fab Lab there is a creative area where you can come up with product designs.
Other government officials present at the event included Catalan President Pere Aragonés. Jordi Herleu, Minister of Industry and Tourism of Spain. Carlos Prieto, representative of the Catalan government. Nuria Marin, Mayor of Ospitalet, and Salvador Illa, First Secretary of the Socialist Party of Catalonia.
Puig’s first tower next door opened in 2014, marking the group’s 100th anniversary. The structure houses the company’s offices, headquarters and back office, brand builder and perfume center, as well as a team focused on the Spanish market. The total number of employees is approximately 500. The new tower will be located at Plaza Europa 34, between Barcelona’s Josep Tara de Las El His Prat Airport and the city’s downtown.
“This new space is clear evidence of our continued commitment to Barcelona, our ambition and growth, sustainability and care for the people who work at Puig, with the building’s LEED Gold certification,” said Chairman and CEO says Mark Puig. Puig officials said in a statement.
CGA Architects designed the new glass-encased tower. It looks like four cubes stacked one on top of the other, and has numerous terraces. The building is 226,045 square feet and has 20 floors of offices. Six elevators connect each floor.
The tower was built with sustainability in mind and features its own on-site solar power and solar thermal energy production system. It received an A rating for energy efficiency and also achieved his LEED Gold certification with a 71/100 rating. Puig said the tower’s theoretical energy consumption is in the top 15 percent of Spanish buildings with the highest energy performance ratings.
According to GCA Architects, “The versatility of interior design allows for flexible spaces with dynamic, collaborative environments that foster creativity and innovation.”
Like the first tower, Puig Tower T2 also features artwork, including a Joan Miró sculpture inspired by Puig fragrance bottles. The second tower houses Miro’s bronze work Monument à la femme, created in 1970. This piece was inspired by the Puig soap that Miro used to wash his brushes.
