Felipe was busy celebrating his special day in front of a public audience of three at Madrid’s Zarzuela Palace.

The King of Spain was born in Madrid in 1968, and in his later years studied abroad in the United States, Canada, and Brussels.

Felipe usually spends the day with his two daughters, Princess Leonor of Asturias and Princess Sofia, but this year will be one of the first times he won’t celebrate with them.

Princess Leonor is currently participating in sports activities organized by the military academy in Murcia, while Princess Sofia is studying abroad in the UK.

Tomorrow, the king will receive birthday wishes from the Spanish ambassador at a traditional reception with his wife Queen Letizia at the Royal Palace.

Leticia and Felipe met two years ago at a mutual friend’s dinner party and married in 2004.

The King of Spain holds a master’s degree in international relations and a degree in law.

He loves astronomy, skiing, and sailing. The King competed in the 1992 Olympics as a member of the Spanish sailing team.

The king’s birthday comes just after his sister finalized their divorce after 26 years of marriage.

According to Hola!, Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin finalized their divorce in December after the former couple signed documents at a notary public office in Barcelona.

The couple first met at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and married on October 4, 1997 at Barcelona Cathedral.

Rumors about the couple’s breakup began in January 2022 after former handball player Iñaki was photographed holding hands with another woman.
