On the morning of January 28, a Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee light aircraft (registration D-EMGE) crashed on Rue Sauvenier, near Spa Airport, Spa, Belgium. Early in the morning, the plane took off from Düsseldorf Mönchengladbach Airport in Germany.
The Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee crashed about 100 meters next to Spa Airport between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. local time. The aircraft missed the approach and attempted a go-around, but collided with a vehicle. I heard an explosion.
The light aircraft collided with the car and both burst into flames. Fortunately, the driver was smoking a cigarette outside the car, so the car was unoccupied.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene and a perimeter was set up around the crash site.
Two fatalities have been reported, with the pilot and passenger confirmed dead.
