Inspectors said they discovered work was being done without permits after the wall collapsed on Wednesday afternoon. Footage obtained by CBS New York shows bricks falling outside, knocking down a construction fence and causing bystanders to run.

Until last year, the building housed the historic Areva Dairy. That part of Little Italy’s history will soon be reduced to rubble.
“My heart just dropped a few beats,” Areva Dairy owner Karen King said in a statement.
