Lowry has improved for the Porsche Singapore Classic in March

Must read

Shane Lowry has confirmed he will compete in the second edition of the Porsche Singapore Classic next month, as he looks to end a 12-year absence.

Local organizers confirmed Lowry will appear at the event, scheduled to be held at the island nation’s Laguna National Course from March 21 to 24.

The $2.5 million event is the first of five tournaments on the DP World Tour’s “International Swing” and will be held concurrently with the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship.

Lowry last visited Singapore for the 2012 Barclays Singapore Open, where he missed the half-cut of the then jointly sanctioned European Tour and Asian Tour event, but this year’s event will be held again. Despite this, relations between the two tours remained clearly “strained.” in Singapore without participating in the Asian Tour.

Lowry has no such problems.

“I love playing all over the world, so I’m excited to have the opportunity to return to Singapore,” Lowry said in a press release.

“I played in Singapore a few times early in my career and loved experiencing everything this city has to offer. I also had never played in Laguna Nacional before but had heard good things. It looks like it will be a great test.”

News of Lowry’s visit to Singapore comes as the proud Offaly man drops out of the world top 50 for the first time since early 2019, with Lowry currently ranked 51st in the world looking to rectify that slippage at this week’s WM Phoenix Open. It was done.

But the good news for Lowry is that he can travel to Singapore knowing he will be exempt from attending the April Masters.
