Chinatown during Chinese New Year is visually pleasing. The historic center is decorated with bright, festive decorations. Hanging lanterns create a gorgeous atmosphere and add to the festive atmosphere.

This year’s 2024 Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Lighting will be held from 7pm to 12am on January 19th. It will be lit until 6 a.m. on the first day of Lunar New Year.

Look for lanterns along New Bridge Road, Yew Tong Seng Street, South Bridge Road and Upper Cross Street.

The official street lighting and opening ceremony will be held on January 19th at Crete Ayer Square.

Other festive events held during Chinese New Year in Chinatown include:

  • Festival fairs at Sago Street, Smith Street, Temple Street, Terengganu Street and Pagoda Street (from January 19th to February 9th)
  • People’s Park Festival Fair held in the square in front of the People’s Park complex (January 11th to February 9th)
  • Weekend stage show at Crete Ayer Square (January 27 and 28, February 3-4, 6pm-9pm)
  • Lion Dance Competition at Crete Air Peoples Theater (January 27-28, 6pm)

In 2024, Gardens by the Bay’s annual Lunar New Year flower display will feature a dragon nearly 7 meters tall and over 15 meters long. Arranged among thousands of dahlias of various shapes, sizes and colors, the dragon has scales adorned with hand-arranged cut and preserved flowers in striking yellow and red colors .

In addition to this, it comes with a set of four colorful dragon lanterns, each symbolizing the elements of metal, water, fire and earth. The flower display at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome also includes a scene that interprets the Chinese proverb “鱼跃龙门,” which means “a carp leaps over the dragon gate,” a symbol of courage and the pursuit of greatness. It becomes a metaphor.

Dahlia Dreams 2024 at Flower Dome will be held from January 19th to February 25th, 2024. Regular admission fees to the Flower Dome apply.

From February 8th to 17th, enjoy a 5-minute light and sound show titled “Spring Warm Flower Expansion” specially designed for the Lunar New Year. If you’re looking for free Chinese New Year activities in Singapore, head to Supertree Grove to enjoy this special visual and auditory treat.

Garden Rhapsody is held daily at 7:45pm and 8:45pm.


River Rainbow Fort 2024

Look forward to dazzling lantern sets, festive programs, carnival activities and more at River Hongbao, the annual popular Lunar New Year event. The Year of the Dragon is sure to bring some great photo opportunities at this popular event, one of Singapore’s biggest Lunar New Year festive events.

The Lunar New Year Istana Open House is one of several times a year that the public can visit the grounds of Singapore’s Presidential Palace.

The public is usually able to visit the Istana’s lush grounds from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours of the Istana buildings and Istana grounds will also be organized. You can also enjoy activities and performances.
