JOHOR BARU – Malaysian police have arrested a man who helped investigate a road rage incident that occurred along the North-South Expressway.
The man is a foreigner in his 40s.
Johor Police Commissioner M. Kumar said the arrest was made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at 3.30am on February 12 in Genting Highlands, Pahang.
“The team also seized the vehicle,” he said in a statement.
It added that the suspect has currently been detained for three days, ending on February 14.
Kumar said the incident is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
If convicted, the suspects could be sentenced to one to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
“We urge the public not to make any speculations that could confuse the investigation.
“All road users are also advised to exercise patience and consideration to ensure their safety, especially during the holiday season,” he added.
Earlier, Johor police announced that authorities were searching for the owner of a Singapore-registered car for allegedly breaking the window of another car on the NSE.
Commissioner Kumar said the report was filed at 2.36pm on February 10 after which a 54-second video of the altercation went viral on social media.
“Initial investigation revealed that this incident was caused by the victim’s actions in blocking the suspect’s vehicle in the emergency lane along the highway.
“This made the suspect, who appeared to be a foreigner, so frustrated that he got out of his car and broke the rear window of the victim’s car.”Star/Asia News Network
