Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri to travel to Spain ahead of loan move to Granada

Must read

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is set to head to Spain today before completing a planned move to Granada on loan until the end of the season.

The deal to bring Pellistri into the Spanish side took a big step forward on Monday and is now in the final stages.

Granada’s signing of the 22-year-old is expected to be a straight loan deal with no option to make the move permanent in the summer, with United paying part of the player’s wages.

Uruguay international Pellistri has appeared in 14 games for Erik ten Hag’s side this season, but only started in one Premier League game – the home defeat to Crystal Palace in September. Only. He was an unused substitute in United’s 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Pellistri joined Old Trafford from Peñarol in 2020 and has previously spent two loan spells at Granada’s La Liga rivals Alaves, playing 35 games in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He participated, but did not score any goals.

Pellistri’s move to Granada coincides with full-back Álvaro Fernandes’ season-long loan spell at the Spanish club being cut short, as he joins Benfica from United.

Granada are in 19th place in La Liga with 11 points after 22 league games this season with just two wins.

Prior to his move, Pellistri met with fellow Uruguayan Granada coach Alexander Medina and the club’s sporting director Matteo Tognozzi.

The Uruguayan was behind Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony in the pecking order at Old Trafford, while Amad has only recently returned from a long injury spell.

The winger has established himself as a regular in the Uruguayan national team, earning 18 caps, including all three games at the 2022 World Cup.
