Manchester United loser Mason Greenwood scored again in Getafe’s 2-0 win over Granada in La Liga on Monday night.
Greenwood left Old Trafford on loan last summer after reaching a mutual agreement with the club that it would be best for him to resume his career elsewhere after he was arrested in January 2022 on multiple charges, including attempted rape. I left the group.
The charges were subsequently dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023, but Greenwood was loaned to Getafe and got his life off to a good start in Spain.
He opened the scoring on Monday with a delicate near-post finish, his fourth league goal of the season.
Greenwood cut inside with his favored left foot and clipped goalkeeper Augusto Batala’s off-footed shot just inside the box and into the top corner.
Greenwood drove to the corner flag to celebrate with his teammates and set his team on course for a customary victory.
His goal in the 21st minute put Getafe in the lead, and fellow forward Borja Mayoral doubled the home side’s lead 15 minutes later.
Getafe finished the game with minimal fuss and remained in 10th place, while Granada remained in the relegation zone, safe with six points adrift.
Greenwood’s loan deal with Getafe expires this summer, while his contract with United is due to end in June 2025.
However, the 22-year-old wants to remain in Spain and is reported to have told his advisers that a £40m move to Barcelona would be a dream move for him.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also thought to be considering approaches for the striker and are tracking Greenwood’s development at Getafe.
