Mikel Arteta could be leaving Arsenal at the end of the season, according to a sensational new report from Spain.

Arteta could become the latest big-name Premier League manager to step down, days after Jurgen Klopp announced he would leave Liverpool in the coming months.

The Catalan-based newspaper Sport reported that Arteta had told those close to him that he was considering leaving early.

Arteta’s contract runs until 2025, but the outlet added that his strong relationship with Arsenal’s board could allow him to break his existing contract.

Barcelona manager Xavi has also announced that he will leave the Camp Nou at the end of this season, but the timing of Arteta’s rumored decision is thought to be a coincidence.

According to Sport, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has high praise for Arteta, but no formal contact has been made regarding the impending vacancy.

Arteta took over as Arsenal manager in 2019, leaving his role as Josep Guardiola’s trusted number two at Manchester City. He went on to win three trophies during his stay in north London: the FA Cup and two Community Shields.

The Spaniard led Arsenal to a sensational Premier League title last season, securing a return to the Champions League.

More to come.
