Singapore’s CG animation industry appears to have taken another hit following the closure of Lucasfilm Singapore in August 2023.This time, London-based Moonbug Entertainment will take over Singapore’s one animationjust 18 months after the acquisition in 2022.
One Animation is best known for its worldwide hit series. oddbods, a short comedy skit with no dialogue, aimed at preschoolers. In addition to broadcasting episodes on the Internet, they were also aired on Cartoon Network, Disney, Netflix, Nickelodeon, and Tencent. Other past works from the studio include: steal the robot (2010) and insect (2015).
According to Kidscreen, Moonbug’s move to close the Singapore-based animation studio was to focus resources on pre- and post-production while outsourcing the majority of animation work to third parties.
“When Moonbug acquired One Animation in 2022, it not only acquired an incredible premium kids franchise; oddbodsBut also an amazing leadership team and production studio based in Singapore. The production capacity at that time not only supports, oddbodsas well as providing third-party animation services to other media companies. As always, we’ve scaled back our studio operations and cut back on third-party services in order to fully focus our resources on Moonbug’s own franchises. Consistent with much of Moonbug’s production pipeline, most of the animation is currently outsourced. We are extremely grateful for the valuable contributions from our team and the APAC region will continue to be a key market and priority for us in 2024,” said a Moonbug spokesperson.
Moonbug will continue to grow oddbods and its spin-offs mini body A global brand. Season 4 of Oddbods has already started this month. In the meantime, here is his hour-long compilation recently posted on his official YouTube channel.
