Must read

LIV Golf has signed a contract with Spanish pay-TV broadcaster Movistar Plus+ to broadcast the 2024 and 2025 seasons of the Saudi-backed league.

contract:

  • LIV Golf schedule will feature 14 events in eight different countries, including a return visit to Andalusia, Spain in July
  • The event will be broadcast on Movistar Plus+’s Golf and Golf 2 channels

context:

The deal with Telefonica-owned Movistar Plus+ allows LIV to secure a partnership with a well-known broadcast partner. The series originally had to air most of the events for free through YouTube, Facebook and the official LIV Golf website after a major broadcaster transferred the rights.

The first 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series was streamed on DAZN in Spain. SportsPro understands that DAZN was provided free, non-exclusive worldwide rights by LIV Golf to broadcast the series.

This season of LIV will feature Spanish golfers Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm. The move late last year is seen as the biggest coup to date for the Public Investment Fund (PIF)-affiliated organization.

For Movistar Plus+, the agreement with LIV adds to its extensive golf portfolio, which includes the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, four men’s majors, five women’s majors, and PGA Tour and DP World Tour events.

comment:

“We are excited to partner with Movistar Plus+, Spain’s premier streaming platform,” said Will Steger, Chief Media Officer at LIV Golf. “LIV Golf’s goal from the beginning has been to introduce golf to new audiences around the world. Our team is enthusiastic about expanding streaming and traditional viewing options through partnerships with platforms such as Movistar Plus+. I have been working on this.

“In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out more than a dozen new and expanded distribution partnerships, as well as innovative plans for Friday coverage, to build on the momentum from our first two seasons.”
