Sikyong Pengpa Tsering addresses members of the Tibetan community in Brussels.
BRUSSELS: In the early afternoon of Sunday, February 4, 2024, Mr. Sikyong Pengpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Government arrived at Brussels Airport. He was met at his gate by Congressman Rigzin Genkan and received a traditional warm welcome. Chemar Chanbwe (pour butter powder and first chang) and Catagus by the president of the Tibetan community, other Tibetan organizations, and the general public who were waiting for a Tibetan political leader.
Si-kyung was then escorted to a hotel in a police convoy, where he was greeted by a crowd of people. Chemar Chanbwe and Tashi Schoerpa (Lucky dance) organized by the Tibetan community.
In the late afternoon, Sikyong Pengpa Tsering arrived in the port city of Antwerp, home to a majority Tibetan population. There he interacted with Tibetan youth. During the hour-long exchange, Mr. Sikyong highlighted Tibet’s historical status, rich cultural heritage, ecological importance, and current situation in Tibet. He also reminded the younger generation of their responsibility to advance Tibet’s freedom struggle.
In the evening, Mr. Sikyong gave a lecture to a packed Tibetan audience who had come from all over Belgium. He spoke at length about the priorities of the Central Tibetan Administration, followed by a question-and-answer session.
The evening concluded with a dinner reception commemorating Sikyong’s visit and a cultural performance by students from the Lakar Group and Sherab Nanjay Weekend Tibetan School.
After successfully completing his official visit, Sikyong Pengpa Tsering left Brussels for India on the morning of Monday, February 5th.
