Supermarkets across Spain are adjusting their opening hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to ensure everyone has a chance to stock up for the festive season.
As the end of the year festivities approach on December 31st and January 1st, Spain’s major supermarket chains are changing their opening hours.
These adjustments are especially important this year, as Spaniards prepare for the last meal of 2023 and the arrival of 2024.
December 31st is celebrated with family gatherings and the tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight to symbolize the welcome of the new year. You can check the specific business hours of each store by following the link.
Supermarket schedule for December 31st
Mercadona, One of Spain’s leading supermarket chains will be open on a half-day schedule from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 31.
However, due to the company’s policy of closing on Sundays and public holidays, the store will also be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen on Tuesday, January 2nd.
carrefour, another popular and well-known chain, will be open until 7pm on New Year’s Eve. Store hours vary, so we recommend checking each store’s specific hours.
alcampo The supermarket will maintain its normal opening hours of 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sundays and recognized holidays. However, on these special days, some stores may have reduced hours from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
riddle Stores, especially in shopping centers and tourist areas, will be open as usual from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on December 31, but will be closed on January 1.
aldi will follow a similar pattern and will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. We recommend checking each store’s business hours using our store locator.
diamond The supermarket will be open from 10am to 3pm on New Year’s Eve, with normal business hours from 9am to 9pm. weekdays and some holidays.
El Corte Ingles group stores and more hyper core Supercor is typically open on Sundays and public holidays. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 31. However, the store will be closed on January 1st.
