The NFL plans to host its first-ever regular season game in Spain in 2025.
The league announced Friday at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas that its international schedule for the 2025 season will include games at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, home of Real Madrid.
“To bring the best of the NFL, the best teams and star players to over 13 million passionate fans in Spain and to partner with Real Madrid, truly one of the world’s greatest global soccer clubs. “We couldn’t be more excited about this innovative stadium with a sense of class.” peter o’reillyhead of international affairs for the NFL.
The team participating in that game will be announced at a later date, but O’Reilly said the host team will likely be an AFC team since teams in that conference will play an additional home game that season.
In December, team owners authorized the league to play eight games internationally each season.
Real Madrid were actively involved in the mix.
In 2024, the NFL is scheduled to play three games in London, one game in Germany and the first game in Brazil. Mexico City has also hosted some games and plans to host them again in 2026.
Amazon play (off)
Amazon Prime Video will broadcast next season’s NFL postseason games, three people familiar with the matter confirmed to The Associated Press.
This will be the second year in a row that a major NFL game will be broadcast exclusively on streaming platforms. Last month’s AFC Wild Card Game between the Chiefs and Dolphins was streamed on Peacock. According to various reports, NBCUniversal paid $110 million for the rights to the game, and Amazon is expected to pay more.
Under the NFL’s deal, each of the four broadcast partners – NBC, CBS, Fox and ESPN/ABC – will get at least one wild-card game. Of the remaining two games, one will rotate between NBC, CBS and FOX each year, and the other will be up for bid.
