The Secretary of the Joint Arms Cooperation Agency (OCCAR-EA) signed the Second Amendment Amendment to the Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Contract with the consortium of Hensoldt Optronics GmbH and THEON Sensors SA on January 26, 2024, providing for night vision goggles. Promoted additional procurement. Goggles and in-service support for Belgium and Germany.
MIKRON NVG is a lightweight image-enhancing binocular that can be worn on the head, attached to a helmet, or held in the hand. In particular, it features an integrated infrared illuminator and each monocular can be flipped independently, allowing for quick configuration adjustments. This device runs on a single AA battery, but you can also use a remote battery pack for extended use.
Belgium and Germany have so far received large quantities of MIKRON night vision goggles under this program, with Belgium receiving 4,550 sets and Germany receiving 11,775 sets. The newly signed amendment, known as NVG Contract Amendment No. 2, adds an additional 3,500 MIKRON NVG sets for Belgium. Additionally, initial in-service support for Germany will be introduced and existing in-service support for Belgium will be revised.
The goal of the NVC program is to enhance night vision for dismounted soldiers and military vehicle drivers in both Belgium and Germany, according to a release from OCCAR-EA. The release further states that representatives from Germany and Belgium praised OCCAR-EA’s leadership in managing the program and the level of cooperation between the two countries. The joint procurement of these NVGs is intended to increase interoperability between the two countries and reduce logistical challenges in theaters of operations where the two countries’ militaries jointly deploy.
