Defending Olympic champions Belgium successfully consolidated their position in Paris to defend their men’s hockey title.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris later this year, and the Belgian hockey team secured their spot at the 2024 FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers in Valencia on Friday, January 19th with a win in the semi-finals against South Korea.
Belgium won 4-0 and had to fight hard throughout the first half against South Korea. Finally, Tanguy Cosins scored the opening goal just before the break to seal the victory. They continued to control the game in the second half, scoring one point in the third quarter and adding two more in the fourth, clinching a spot in the final and earning a ticket to the Paris Olympics.
There they will fight to defend the title they won in Tokyo three years ago. South Korea still has a chance to qualify for Paris if they win Sunday’s third-place match against Ireland.
Belgian captain and man of the match Felix Denayer scored the fourth goal. He said: Going to the Olympics is very special. We came here as favorites, but we didn’t have anything in our pockets yet, so now we can get our Olympic tickets and start preparing in earnest for the big stage in Paris. ”
