new york — The Department of Buildings is investigating the city’s second partial building collapse in the past month.
The latest incident occurred at the corner of Grand and Mulberry streets in Little Italy.
The hole in the wall where the facade had collapsed was clearly visible. Part of the construction fence collapsed due to the collapse.
The FDNY said its K-9 unit completed a search of the building and no one was trapped in the rubble.
There are several businesses nearby, but investigators said there were no reports of injuries.
The affected building is actually where the Areva Dairy Store was located. It was known as one of the oldest cheese shops in the country until it closed in March of last year.
I know there was construction going on at the site. For example, the permit for the construction fence was issued last October.
I don’t know if its construction had anything to do with the collapse.
Neighbors told CBS New York they were concerned about the strength of the city’s aging buildings, especially after seeing the situation. Part of a building collapsed in the Bronx last month And that Ann Street parking lot collapse in spring.
The city is currently investigating the cause of Little Italy’s collapse.
