Ana Maria Knezevic Henao, 40, disappeared on February 2, according to Spain’s National Center for Missing Persons. She is a naturalized American from Colombia and was in the midst of a bitter divorce with her husband when she traveled to Spain from Florida in December, the Associated Press reported.
“She never did that,” her friend Sanna Rameau, who received the English text message, told The Associated Press. “That’s a very dangerous and crazy move. She wouldn’t do that.”
On February 3, Knezevic-Hennao sent a text message to two friends, one in English and the other in Spanish, telling her that she had “met a wonderful person” on a walk the day before, and that the man was I told him I was going home. A villa on the outskirts of Madrid, according to the Associated Press.
The news agency added that the text sent by Knezevic Henao in Spanish was “so flat that it appeared to have been written in English and run through Google Translate.”
“It didn’t make sense,” she said.
After several days passed with no further contact from Knezevich Henao, friends called the local fire department for a medical check, WTVJ reported.
“They couldn’t find her,” Lemoux told the news station. She added: “It appears she left the apartment locked from the outside.” That’s the last we know. ”
Knezevich Henao’s brother, Juan Felipe Henao, told CNN that his sister was scheduled to take a train to Barcelona with a friend on February 5, but did not show up at the station. CNN reported that authorities learned that around the time she went missing, someone had spray-painted the lenses of two security cameras in the apartment where she was staying.
Lemoux told WTVJ: “A man wearing a helmet sprayed a security camera outside the apartment building’s register, waited for two people to exit the building, then took an opportunity to enter near the elevator. “We sprayed the surveillance cameras inside the building,” he said.
It was not immediately clear whether the incident was related to the 40-year-old man’s disappearance.
According to the Associated Press, Knezevich Henao and her husband David Knezevich have been married for 13 years. They own EOX Technology Solutions Inc., a company that provides computer support to businesses in South Florida, the news agency said.
Henao and Ramo told CNN they have been in contact with Knezevic, who told them he was in his native Serbia.
Authorities continue to investigate.
