Portfolio manager leaves Hong Kong hedge fund and joins Singapore quant fund

Must read

Quantitative fund SquarePoint Capital didn’t take long to start hiring in the new year. The company hired two buy-side quants with sell-side experience, both of whom worked at Deutsche Bank.

Most notably, SquarePoint hired Roman Colas as a quantitative researcher from Obata Capital, a Hong Kong-based hedge fund founded by a group of former Bluecrest traders. He had been his portfolio manager for two years at the company’s headquarters, but has decided to move to Singapore for his new role.

Most of his career was spent in investment banking. He started as a prop trading analyst at Credit Suisse and was later promoted to director positions at JP Morgan and Citi. His last banking job was as Asia Pacific head of equity derivatives trading at Deutsche Bank.

Elsewhere in London, Square Point has hired Nicholas Landon, also from Deutsche Bank, as a fixed income quantitative researcher. He spent five years as a FIC desk strat at Deutsche Bank, leaving in mid-2021 to join multi-strat hedge fund Millennium.

Squarepoint continues to hire at both locations. There are 22 job postings in Singapore and 35 in London. Both are advertising roles for advanced and entry-level quants.
