Many British people move to Spain in search of a happier life.

With warm weather, friendly people, cheap beer, and a relaxed culture, this country has a lot to offer to those who are feeling down.

But which city in Spain is the happiest?

Most foreigners would be surprised to learn that it is located in northern Spain, rather than the sunny south.

According to the Quality of Life Institute, Bilbao is the happiest city in the country.

Ranked 69th in the world, the city was recognized for its inclusive policies, economy, mobility and access to green spaces.

With a population of approximately 347,000 people, Bilbao is the largest city in the Basque Country.

However, it is small enough to be explored on foot or by using the extensive public transportation system.

Visitors can stroll through the city’s many art galleries and museums, including the famous Guggenheim Museum.

This museum is an architectural feat in itself and houses some of today’s most important works of contemporary art.

Unlike other tourist destinations in Andalusia and the Balearic Islands, the region’s temperatures are mild throughout the year, with highs of 25°C in summer and cold winters.

The city is also known for its gastronomy, and was named by The Times as one of Spain’s most “gourmet” cities.

Step outside the city and discover the beauty of the Bay of Biscay.

This beautiful coastline offers plenty of opportunities to connect with nature through hiking, biking, and even sunbathing.

Bilbao also has a strong cultural identity as the capital of the Basque Country, offering tourists the opportunity to immerse themselves in a culture that is largely unknown to most tourists.

Its happiness score was 1464.4, about 200 points lower than the world’s happiest city, Aarhus, Denmark.

Other Scandinavian countries also ranked high on the list, along with North America and Oceania.

Flights from the UK (Bristol) are just 1 hour and 45 minutes, saving you precious time to enjoy your holiday.
