Room Check: Singapore’s New Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel

Sherry Howie enjoys two nights at Singapore’s must-see Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel, which opens in June 2023.

position: Claymore, Singapore

style: A garden-style hotel with a tropical location and natural surroundings.

price: Accommodation prices range from deluxe rooms at NZ$435 per night to premier two-bedroom suites at around $1000 per night.

Perfect for: Enjoy a unique, modern hotel surrounded by lush greenery, waterfront and multiple communal relaxation spaces, just off Orchard Road, Singapore’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment hub.

First impression: I have never seen a building like this. The hotel’s four nature-inspired relaxation and recreation spaces (Forest, Beach, Garden and Cloud) function as sky terraces (except for the Forest on the ground floor), and the rooms offer panoramic views of the first three. I love how each one reflects off the all-glass ceiling, making for confusing and fun Instagram posts.

room: I stayed in the Premier Balcony King ($510 per night). I loved the rain shower, 100 percent edible welcome treat, bedside lighting controls, and of course the amazing bed. If I had stuffed it in my bag, I would have slept there tonight.

The ceiling is very high, so the already sufficient space felt even larger, and I couldn’t hear any noise from the neighbors.

The balcony, enclosed by electronic blinds, had a great view of the garden terrace, but due to Singapore’s hot and sticky climate, I sadly hardly used it. Other guests may be more stubborn.

The only disappointing thing was that there was no desk. This is said to be intentional, as modern workers can and often choose to work anywhere. But sometimes you want to work from the most convenient space available – your room.

Other room options include the Premier Balcony Loft ($622 per night), which has a loft-style mezzanine with a sofa, and the unique Beach Loft Room ($622 per night), which has direct “swim-out” access to the hotel’s huge pool. $917). .

Bathroom: The space for the basin leads to a spacious rain shower with excellent water pressure. A separate toilet and bathroom area can both be screened off from the rest of the room by sliding walls.

Eco-friendly, refillable shampoo, conditioner and soap containers are fixed to the shower wall, and complimentary hand soap and moisturizer are also provided.

Food and drinks: you will eat a lot. Starting with an all-edible welcome gift of chocolate and fruit, a fruit plate is delivered to your room each day.

Breakfast at the on-site restaurant, Mosella, is pricey at $58 if not included in your room rate, but the buffet offers all the flavors of East and West. A chef is always on hand to cook your favorite eggs.

Those with Pacific Club benefits can dine in the more intimate Pacific Club Lounge. There, breakfast options are fewer but more upscale. Think caviar-topped eggs she-benny. The lounge is also open for afternoon tea, and cocktails and canapés at sunset.

After breakfast, Mocella moves on to a wonderful Mediterranean-Peruvian restaurant. You can then head up the 11th floor to the Floret Bar. There, delicious signature cocktails are served, named after his four nature-inspired sections of the hotel.

If the distance to the on-site restaurant is a bit far, room service is still available. The room also has a very small fridge and a Nespresso his coffee maker with a variety of pods.

Facility: Unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi and on-site parking are included, and fitness enthusiasts can choose between a large, fully equipped indoor gym or an outdoor mini-gym.

The large lagoon-style pool includes one lane for fitness swimmers and a swim-up bar that deliciously reverses all the effects.

Down the hall, St. Gregory Spa offers a full menu of massages, body scrubs, and beauty treatments for a fee. The Balinese massage was so relaxing that I fell asleep!

neighborhood: Orchard Road shopping district is a 2-minute walk away, with numerous malls and outdoor and indoor restaurants and bars. It’s busy no matter what time of day it is, and you don’t have to worry about it even late at night.

AEON Orchard Mall is also within walking distance of traditional Singapore hawker-style restaurants. And just a few kilometers away, Dempsey Hill, a former British Army barracks, offers a mix of world-class eateries befitting a cosmopolitan city.

Cut down on calories with a stroll through the nearby Singapore Botanic Gardens. You can also use the excuse to take a break to admire the world’s largest orchid exhibit.

For families: The pool is Pan Pacific Orchard’s kid-friendly ace, with a gentle slope to the water no more than waist height for adults. Plus, the hotel’s unique design means you don’t have to worry about forgetting your sunscreen. Cots, cots and baby baths are available, but you must take care of your own children and there is no sitting service.

Accessibility: We offer accessible guest rooms with clear and spacious passageways through the lobby, elevators, and other access areas. The hotel also has a driveway ramp.

The pool’s beach lagoon design allows for step-free entry. However, there are no hoists available for guests with disabilities.

sustainability: Being green is a hallmark of Pan Pacific Orchard, and it starts with a rainwater irrigation system for every foliage.

Filtered taps and glass bottled water are available in-room, so plastic waste is kept to a minimum. We also use biodegradable cups and straws in our on-site restaurant and bar. Refillable soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided in each room, eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles.
