According to recent data provided by the Spanish tourism board Turespaña, the total number of planned international seats to Spain as of January 2024 was 7.4 million. This represents a 13% increase compared to his January 2023, when 6.6 million seats were offered.
Comparing the forecast for January 2024 with the same period in 2023, the source said it is clear that the key issue markets of the UK, Germany and Italy remain strong. Specifically, the United Kingdom increased its seats by 5.9%, Germany by 12.2% and Italy by 20.7%, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
This forecast confirms the strength of Spain’s tourism industry, with data predicting that 2024, like 2023, will be a great year, already exceeding pre-pandemic numbers.
Poland and the Czech Republic also saw exceptional growth rates, with accelerated growth of over 50%. Additionally, significant increases of more than 15% were also seen in Ireland, the United States, Colombia, Austria, and Türkiye.
Previous Turespaña data also shows that the total number of international seats scheduled to fly to Spain in December 2023 has increased significantly, reaching 8.1 million seats. This figure represented a 14.2% increase compared to December 2022, when 7.1 million seats were offered.
In December 2022, Poland showed an impressive performance, with 90.7% more spots scheduled than the previous year. Following closely behind was the Czech Republic, which saw a huge increase of 46.2 percent, and the United States, which saw a 27.2 percent increase in seats over the previous year.
At the same time, Austria saw a 26.4% year-on-year increase in the number of seats scheduled for December flights. According to the seat allocation by country for scheduled flights, the UK ranked first with 19.3% of the total number of reserved seats in the same month, followed by Germany with 12.6%, and Italy in third place with 9.7%.
Additionally, Turespaña’s October 2023 report showed a 9.8% year-on-year increase in the number of airline seats, compared to the same month in 2022, when there were a total of 9.6 million seats.
Compared to September 2019, there was a difference of more than 393,552 locations compared to October of the same year, which recorded a total of 10.1 million planned locations.
