Hello from New York as my field trip to Oman draws to a close. I took an 8-hour flight from Frankfurt to New York on Singapore Airlines’ Boeing 777-300ER business class. Suffice to say the trip went off with a bang as Singapore Airlines was great as always.
I will be publishing a full trip report soon, but in this post I would like to share my first impressions. It’s been many years since I’ve flown Singapore Airlines’ 777 business class, so I was interested to see how it held up. Well, the answer is that it’s holding up extremely well.
Singapore Airlines is one of my favorite airlines in the world. This airline has one of the best business classes of any airline and offers the best service of any airline. This flight was no exception, with impeccable service, delicious food and drinks, endless entertainment, and free Wi-Fi.
This is definitely the best way to fly business class between Europe and the US, and it’s completely different from Lufthansa’s business class. The only drawback is that the flight from Frankfurt to New York departs at 8:20 a.m., so you won’t have time to connect in Frankfurt (although I personally like the schedule starting from Frankfurt). Masu!).
Anyway, let me share some key takeaways from the flight…
Singapore Airlines’ 777 business class seats are unique
Singapore Airlines’ 777 business class seats are fully lie-flat in a 1-2-1 configuration.
This airline has products you won’t find on other airlines. The seats are completely forward-facing, but if you fold them down you’ll have to sleep diagonally. That’s because to convert a seat into a bed, you have to flip the back of the seat over, and then your feet are next to the front seat. In other words, you will basically be sleeping diagonally to the aircraft.
I think Singapore Airlines’ 777 business class seats are good, but not the best in the world. That’s not surprising considering how long this product has been around. I’m looking forward to seeing what Singapore Airlines has to offer with its new business class product debuting on the 777X.
The trick to taking your Singapore Airlines business class experience to the next level is to assign a bulkhead seat with more legroom. I’ll talk more about Singapore Airlines’ amazing bulkhead business class seats and how to assign them in another post.
The Singapore Airlines 777 business class bed is firm, but I like that the airline offers two plush pillows in business class. This is not the case with many airlines.
Singapore Airlines business class service is amazing
The single thing that makes flying with Singapore Airlines the most enjoyable is always impeccable service. In my opinion, no other airline in the world offers as consistent a service as Singapore Airlines when it comes to in-flight crew.
Singapore Airlines flight attendants pay close attention to detail, warmth, efficiency and calm. Perhaps after getting off an Oman Air flight with poor service, this flight made me appreciate it more than ever.
Clearly, higher service standards are the norm in Asia than in the US or Europe, and even with that difference, flying Singapore Airlines between Germany and the US is especially enjoyable.
Singapore Airlines business class food and drinks are amazing
On this flight, lunch was provided after takeoff and light refreshments were provided prior to arrival. How was the meal?
Well, the service started with Singapore Airlines signature chicken satay, which was delicious. I had a glass of champagne to go with it, and the airline now pours Piper-Heidsieck Brut Vintage 2014 in business class, which I really enjoyed.
Next, I had a quinoa salad with sautéed shrimp, asparagus and lemon crème fraiche. Bread was also recommended and I chose Singapore Airlines’ legendary garlic bread.
For main courses, Singapore Airlines offers a “Book the Cook” program, which allows you to pre-order from a more extensive menu. I looked at the in-flight menu beforehand and one option sounded great to me, so I decided not to order there. I ordered Gai Pad King, a Thai-style stir-fried chicken dish with ginger, vegetables, and rice.
We ended our meal with desserts such as coconut ice cream and strawberry shortcake.
I also like that Singapore Airlines offers cappuccino in business class. This is standard on most airlines in Asia and the Gulf, but rarely in business class on airlines in the United States and Europe (with a few notable exceptions).
Singapore Airlines’ entertainment and Wi-Fi are world-class
Another area where Singapore Airlines excels is in-flight entertainment. Singapore Airlines’ Krisworld entertainment system is one of the best in the world, boasting a huge selection of movies and TV shows. I love that this airline has full seasons of so many shows while most other airlines only have a few episodes of each show.
No matter how picky you are about entertainment, you’ll never be bored with Singapore Airlines.
Not only that, Singapore Airlines also offers unlimited free Wi-Fi. First and business class passengers can log in by simply entering their name and seat number, while premium economy and economy class passengers need to be KrisFlyer members. This is great because you can stay connected on multiple devices during your flight.
conclusion
Singapore Airlines is a world-class airline that never fails to impress me. The consistency offered by Singapore Airlines is on a completely different level than other airlines. This flight had impeccable service, delicious food and drinks, endless entertainment, free Wi-Fi, and comfortable seats.
I always enjoy flying in business class on Singapore Airlines, but the one between Frankfurt and New York is even more special considering it’s so much better than its competitors.
