Singapore Airlines (SIA) has successfully achieved International Air Transport Association (IATA) global re-certification for perishable goods management at its Singapore hub. Recertification is effective February 1, 2024 and is for a period of three years.
This certification is based on the guidelines outlined in IATA’s Perishable Cargo Regulations and incorporates input from regulators and industry experts. This confirms SIA’s continued efforts to meet the highest standards of food safety in the air cargo sector, with the aim of reducing food waste throughout the supply chain.
This certification assures SIA customers that their time- and temperature-sensitive cargo will receive efficient and reliable transportation through SIA’s THRUFRESH service.
THRUFRESH includes specialized cold chain services such as priority lift and handling, rapid ramp conveyance, and cold room equipment to ensure the preservation of perishables. In addition, Changi Airport provides dry ice replenishment services for transshipment.
In 2021, SIA worked with leading terminal operators and ground handlers around the world to establish high-quality corridors within their cargo networks that comply with IATA standards. Currently, nine of his SIA stations are certified under this high-quality corridor network: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong SAR, Hyderabad, Singapore and Zurich.
Mr Marvin Tan, Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Cargo, said: IATA CEIV Fresh re-certification confirms the rigorous safety and quality standards we adhere to when transporting perishable cargo. ”
Nick Carine, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Operations, Safety and Security, congratulated Singapore Airlines on achieving IATA CEIV Fresh re-certification. He highlighted SIA’s investments in products and services to minimize spoilage and waste of fresh produce, delivering fresh, high-quality products around the world and establishing itself as an industry leader. He emphasized the airline’s efforts.
In 2021, Singapore Airlines became the first Southeast Asian airline to receive the IATA Center of Excellence Independent Validator in Perishable Logistics (CEIV Fresh) certification. It maintained its exclusive position as the only airline in the region with this certification.
