Singapore Airlines upgrades business class with vintage champagne

Must read

From 6 January, Singapore Airlines Business Class passengers will once again enjoy vintage champagne poured with 2014 Piper-Heidsieck across the network.

Back in October 2021, Singapore Airlines introduced a vintage champagne in the form of Piper-Heidsieck Brut 2012 in business class on some flights, which was then released alternating with Charles Heidsieck on long-haul flights. .

However, in June 2023, the champagne served on this flight was downgraded to the current non-vintage Piper Heidsieck Essentielle Cuvée Reserve Extra Brut, and the following month it was expanded to regional flights.

The good news is Vintage Champagne is back Available in SIA Business Class later this week.

Starting January 6, 2024, Singapore Airlines business class passengers will have Piper Heidsieck Brut Vintage 2014 poured on board.

The airline previously offered the 2012 vintage, but remember that it was launched over two years ago, and prices have increased commensurately since then.

Piper-Heidsieck Brut Vintage 2014 is currently on sale in Singapore at iShopChangi, Icon Wines, etc. for S$100, which is actually about 25% more expensive than its selling price two years ago in 2012.

Of course, retail prices are not directly reflected in contract purchase rates, and airlines like SIA enjoy significant discounts based on order volume.

A blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, this Champagne has a very good rating of 4.2 on Vivino and is being replaced by Essentielle Cuvée Reserve Extra Brut (rated 4.0) It’s definitely a notch higher.

For Champagne lovers, tasting notes for this new variety are available here.

Here’s how Singapore Airlines describes Champagne on their menu:

This Champagne certainly has many positive reviews among wine critics, as summarized here.

It remains to be seen whether Singapore Airlines will also upgrade the champagne it serves in its SilverKris business class lounge at Changi Airport to this variety, or whether it will keep the (still quite acceptable) Piper Heidsieck Essentiel on the ground.

As a result, the company will replace Charles-Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires with the non-vintage Egri-Houllier VP Extra Brut Grand Cru, which will be offered alongside Krug Grand Cuvée and the 2012 Tattinger-Comte. become.

We’re thrilled to see Singapore Airlines bring back vintage champagne in their business class cabins. He is particularly excited that this latest addition will be rolled out virtually across the network from January 6 on the airline’s routes, including regional flights.

In recent years, SIA has offered Taittinger Prelude Grand Cru, Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve, Laurent Perrier Brut and Piper Heidsieck Brut Vintage 2012 in its long-haul business class cabin, and now also offers this latest Piper Heidsieck 2014 option. Almost matches the best among them.

While the Premium Cabin Champagne option itself is by no means “forever”, we hope this new addition sticks around at SIA for a while, especially as it has become increasingly difficult to supply (at least at a decent price) in recent years Flight.

First Class, on the other hand, has three Champagne options, including a rotating guest selection, two of which are vintage Champagnes.

This means that the 2007 Charles-Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires will be in the lineup until the end of January, after which the Egri-Houllier VP Extra Brut Grand Cru will be available to taste until the end of February.
