A 50-year-old Singaporean man was recently sentenced to 10 months in prison for having sex with a minor. According to the Singaporean newspaper, the incident occurred on December 6, 2021, involved a 15-year-old girl, and occurred during school holidays.
The two first met by chance in a multi-storey parking lot.

When the girl accidentally fell and hit the door, Subramaniam came to her rescue. As a thank you, she offered the man a can of her chrysanthemum tea, which sparked a conversation on the parking lot steps, according to the report.
The encounter escalated to the point where they became intimate. The girl performed sexual acts on her to Subramaniam and Subramaniam also attempted sexual acts on her.
After the incident, they exchanged contact information and communicated through WhatsApp, but the messages were not sexually explicit. Two days later, on December 8, 2021, the girl felt exploited by Subramaniam and lodged a police complaint, The Straits Times reported.
During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Sunil Nehru said as quoted by The Straits Times that Mr Subramaniam was fully aware of the girl’s age and that there was no coercion or force involved in their intimate relationship. He said no.
Subramaniam pleaded guilty in January to one count of sexual penetration of a minor under 16, and two additional charges were considered at sentencing. Following his arrest, Subramaniam was suspended from all military service.
