Singapore has proposed a new governance framework for generative AI and is seeking international feedback on it.

Developed by the AI Verify Foundation and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), MGF-GenAI builds on the existing framework of traditional AI, which was last updated in 2020, and is expected to be completed by mid-2024. intend to do something.

The AI Verify Foundation was established in June 2023 to leverage the collective strength and contributions of the global open source community, with the aim of developing AI testing tools for the responsible use of AI. Masu.

As we reported at the time, the AI Verify Foundation includes seven pioneering premiers: Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Aicadium (Temasek’s AI Center of Excellence), IBM, Microsoft, Google, Red Hat, and Salesforce. There are members.

Generative AI framework

The new framework builds on previous ideas in a discussion paper published by IMDA and Aicadium last year, and leverages previous research on recommended practices for evaluating generative AI models for safety.

Designed to be inclusive, MGF-GenAI aims to establish a systematic and balanced approach to addressing generative AI concerns while fostering innovation.

Nine key dimensions of AI governance were identified. This includes areas such as accountability, data, safety, incident reporting, testing and assurance, security, and content provenance.

“A careful balance needs to be struck between protecting users and fostering innovation. There will also be a range of international discussions that incorporate relevant and pertinent topics such as accountability, copyright and misinformation. ”, the proposed framework states.

Furthermore, the various issues in generative AI are interconnected, so no single intervention can address all challenges, and we need to consider them in a “pragmatic and holistic” way. did.

Singapore’s Communications and Information Minister Josephine Teo said: “Our contribution to the global dialogue is also part of the reason why we chose the World Economic Forum as the starting point for the updated framework and sought international input.” Stated.

“That’s partly because the field is at such an early stage. We believe that in order to make progress, someone has to come up with something, put it on the table, and then it becomes a global I believe it will enrich the conversation.”
