We’re totally obsessed with how Sofia Vergara, 51, shut down Spanish interviewer Pablo Motos’ questionable comments on her show El Hormiguero. Her appearance on last night’s show may have been to promote her upcoming Netflix series Griselda, but it was much more than that. In fact, it became her master class in how to fiercely advocate for your position. With a big smile, of course.
One of the viral clips from last night’s interview was when Vergara spoke to Motos, 58, about his role on “Modern Family.” As she was describing her time on the show as the character Gloria Pritchett, Motos interrupted her and asked, “What do you call ‘Modern Family’?” Apparently she expects people to make fun of her accent.
But Vergara? It doesn’t move at all. She answered without hesitation: Oh, is it because you speak better English than me? ah” Do you need ice for your burn, Motos?
The “Griselda” actress then goes on to taunt the interviewer a bit. “How many times have you been nominated for an Emmy Award in America?” Woof.
“How many times have Golden Globes nominated you?” she asks, smiling too. As a little funny note, remember that Vergara has been nominated for the Emmy Award four times, and the Golden Globe Award has also been nominated four times. But who’s counting?

At another point, Motos testified that he watched Vergara’s show “Griselda” in its entirety. Vergara isn’t very convinced, but what happens next is really interesting. The interviewer professes, “The first phrase in the first five seconds can sell an entire series.”
“This series is based on a true story and opens with this phrase: ‘Pablo Escobar: The only man I’ve ever been afraid of is a woman…Griselda Marcos.'” One problem? Drugs The queen’s name is Griselda Swing.
Vergara replied, “Her name wasn’t really Griselda Marcos, but Griselda Blanco.”
“But you watched the whole series…” the actress joked. “I knew I was going to get you.” Yes, we laugh at the awkwardness, too.
