Specifically, corn exports reached 26.4 million tons, an increase of nearly 6% compared to 2022. Wheat exports were 16.2 million tons, an increase of 44% compared to the previous year. Barley sales to overseas markets will increase by 1% to 2.2 million tons in 2023.
“Traditionally, the largest buyers of Ukrainian grain last year were representatives of the European Union, Asia and Africa. In 2023, Spain became the largest importer of Ukrainian grains, accounting for 17.1% of the export value of this commodity group. China came in second place with a share of 13.9%.
Romania was the largest importer of Ukrainian grain in 2022 and secured third place in 2023 with a share of 12.5%.
“These three countries, which are leaders in the ranking of major importing countries, together account for about 44% of Ukraine’s total grain purchases,” the scientists pointed out.
