Estepona’s Ana Moncada qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics as a representative for Spain in ILCA6 (women’s laser).

The athlete’s 34th place in the absolute overall standings at the World Championships in Mar de Plata, Argentina was the key to qualifying for the Olympics.

The young 22-year-old sailor, born in Estepona (Málaga), is currently ranked 40th in the world and is the current Spanish champion, European Under-21 champion and 2019 youth champion.

“This is a new milestone for Spanish sailing, making us the European country with the most classified classes ever and making Spain a major international power,” said Cisco Gil, Director of Olympic Preparation for the Spanish Team. “We will position it accordingly.”

“We have surpassed Great Britain, Italy and the Netherlands, who currently have eight spots, and are moving closer to our goal of representing all 10 Olympic classes at Paris 2024.”

With only six months left until the Olympics, host France is the only country to compete in all 10 Olympic sailing classes. Australia, China and New Zealand follow her in ninth place, followed by Spain, a major European country.

The next international competitions for the Spanish Olympic team are the ILCA 7 Class World Championships in Adelaide, Australia from January 26th to 31st and the iQFOiL World Championships in Lanzarote from January 29th to February 3rd. It will be a championship.
