The 42-year-old, identified only by his first name, Dilawar, has been on the outskirts of Madrid since surrendering to police last month after admitting involvement in the triple murder of two sisters and their disabled brother in a nearby town in December. The Madrid region’s Supreme Court said in a statement that he is currently under investigation for allegedly killing his cellmate in prison on Thursday.

Spanish media said the prisoner, a 39-year-old Bulgarian national, was found dead in the same cell as Dilawar, suffering from several bruises.

Authorities believe the brothers were bludgeoned to death with iron bars in December, and parts of their bodies were later burned.
