Tahiti defeated Spain 5-3 in their second group match on Saturday to book a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai.

According to the OCF website, Tiki Toa fought back against the highly rated Spanish team with Luunui Tinirauari’i scoring twice after falling behind by three points.

The team has twice finished runner-up in Portugal in the Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas in 2015 and 2017.

“I think the two teams that pass this group will advance to the finals or the final four,” captain Raimana Lee Fong Kueh said before the tournament.

This is Oceania’s second win in as many matches since defeating Argentina 4-3 last Thursday.

Earlier, OFC reported that Spain’s Dona scored Spain’s third goal in the second period, becoming the first goalkeeper in the tournament.

Goals from Heimanu Taialui, Patrick Tepa and Teali’i Labaste brought Tahiti level, and two goals from Tinirauali sealed a dramatic victory.

Iran defeated Argentina 6-3 and will join Tahiti in the quarter-finals from Group B, with the group winner and runners-up to be determined when the two teams play each other on Tuesday morning (6am New Zealand time).
