Taipei, February 4 (CNA) On Saturday, Taiwanese boxers won two gold medals and two silver medals at the Boxam International Tournament held in La Nucia, Spain from January 30 to February 3.

The first gold medal went to Chen Nianqin, who defeated Kazakhstan’s Madina Nurshayeva 5-0 in the women’s 70kg category.

The 26-year-old also won the title of “Best Boxer” of the tournament.

Chen’s coach, Ko Wenming, told CNA that he intentionally had Chen compete in the 70kg weight class instead of his usual 66kg weight class to increase his stress tolerance.

Ko said Chen had improved a lot since the Asian Games and showed “improved consistency, better tactics and a more stable mindset” in Saturday’s final.

Also on Saturday, Kang Chia-wei won the gold medal in the men’s 75kg category, defeating Poland’s Michal Jarlinski 3-2.

Meanwhile, Wu Shiyi won the silver medal in the women’s 60kg class, and Huang Xiaowen (黃筱雯) won the silver medal in the women’s 57kg class.

Wu and Kang have already secured their spots at the Paris Olympics, while Chen and Fan will have to compete in the qualifying round in Italy from February 29 to March 12.

Chen won a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games, but did not qualify for the Olympics.

Ko said he believes Chen has a good chance of qualifying if he can stay healthy.

Hwang’s coach, Liu Tsung-tai, told CNA that Hwang’s purpose in this tournament was to test his training results by competing against athletes in higher weight classes, and to compete primarily against competitors in the 54kg weight class. He said that it is important to know the players who have the potential to become players. Olympic qualification.
